Surgical Planning Process
Pre-admission clinic nurse – reviews how to prepare for day of surgery and what to expect during
hospital stay, will help answer any questions
Anesthesiologist – will take a surgical history of any procedures you have had in the past, goes
over what to expect with general anesthesia during surgery and options for pain management
after surgery
Additional Lab Tests
Chest x-ray – another image is taken right before surgery to check your heart/lungs
Blood work – another set of general chemistry/hematology workup is completed to provide a
baseline prior to surgery (i.e., complete blood count, electrolyte levels, kidney function levels)
